A Risograph-Printed Guide to the Spellerberg Projects Artist Community
As Executive Director of Spellerberg Projects, an artist-run center in Lockhart, Texas, I work daily with the artists who have studios in our building. We needed a guide that visitors could take home—something that showcased our community’s creative strength. Each page features a different artist or organization, accompanied by photos of their work and basic information about their practice.
When Dimitry Tetin assigned us to create an artist publication in his Texas State University course, I saw an opportunity to make something useful for Spellerberg Projects while exploring publication design. The class made me think about how design choices affect how people understand and use publications.
Artist Tyler Rico assisted me in printing the zine using Texas State’s Risograph printer. Risograph is a stencil-based printing process that requires a separate pass through the machine for each color. This process creates textured prints with vibrant colors and slight registration shifts, giving the pages a warm, handmade look.
The project began as coursework but became a practical tool for our community. The finished zine, available for pickup at the gallery, gives visitors a way to learn about our artists and take that information home with them.
